Many thanks to the artist Norbert Erwin Witzgall for his lecture SHIFTING FRAMES: Painting, Curating, and the Politics of Representation and discussing the works of our participants within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School, Arts Incubator, and Live Online Courses & Classes.

“This lecture explores the intersections of painting and curatorial practice in Norbert Witzgall’s work, focusing on how images construct and challenge hierarchies of visibility. Witzgall’s portraiture engages with questions of class, gender, and perception, drawing on historical techniques while embedding a critical, contemporary gaze. In parallel, their curatorial projects extend these inquiries into exhibition-making, examining how institutional frameworks shape artistic discourse. Reflecting on recent presentations, the lecture traces the connections between these two approaches and considers how artistic and curatorial strategies can be used to question established narratives.” (Text by courtesy of Norbert Erwin Witzgall)
