Edwin Choi explores quiet presence through drawing. His work is inspired by moments of contentment and stillness: a nostalgic memory, the first coffee of the day, resting in the grass with friends, or simply noticing the atmosphere of a place.
During his participation in the Studio Program Art Residency at the BERLIN ART INSTITUTE, Edwin investigated how this feeling might take visual form. Working with charcoal, pastel, watercolor, and graphite, he explored soft marks that fade into the page, suspended powders, translucent layers, and forms whose edges dissolve.
Drawing on his background in product design, he approached the residency as an iterative practice of collecting inspiration, making, and reflection. Rather than pursuing predetermined outcomes, each weekly cycle emphasized exploration, allowing new patterns in materials, themes, and ways of drawing to naturally emerge and shape the direction of the work.
