Art & Architecture

We have set the date for the international Spring Academy of the BERLIN ART INSTITUTE (April 23 – 27, 2018) so that it connects with one of the most important art events in Berlin, the Gallery Weekend Berlin (April 27 – 29, 2018). The program of the Spring Academy is developed in cooperation with artists and theorists. This year it is about Art & Architecture. In addition to the lectures and time for exchange at the BAI, there will be a field trip and a tour to selected galleries and project spaces at the opening of the Gallery Weekend.

Program

Monday, April 23, 2018
2 PM: Reception at the BAI
3 – 6 PM: Space and Beyond: Curatorial Experiments in Art and Architecture
Introduction to the topic by Lukas Feireiss, curator, writer, artist & educator

“Space is a fundamental condition for our understanding of the world. Our whole lives are played out in space. We are embedded in space. Knowingly or unknowingly we are surrounded, influenced, and formed by the spaces of our daily lives. Inspired by creative and critical practices that break original and new ground in the multidimensional understanding of art, architecture and space today, Lukas Feireiss aims to convey in his talk a taste of the intense and diverse language of contemporary creative spatial practices and his non-conventional approach to curating beyond established etiquette and disciplinary boundaries.” (Lukas Feireiss)

Lukas Feireiss works as curator, writer, artist and educator in the international mediation of contemporary cultural reflexivity beyond disciplinary boundaries. He attained his graduate education in Comparative Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethnology. His Berlin-based creative practice Studio Lukas Feireiss aims at the critical cut-up and playful re-evaluation of creative and intellectual production modes and their diverse socio-cultural and medial conditions. Lukas Feireiss is author and editor of numerous books, and curator of manifold exhibitions. He has lectured and taught at various universities worldwide including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, ETH Swiss Institute of Technology, University of Arts Berlin, University of Applied Arts Vienna, University of Arts Linz  and the Gerrit Rietveld Academy Amsterdam, and is head of the new Master’s programme Radical Cut-Up at Sandberg Instituut, Amsterdam.
