THE MINISTRY OF CULTURES, ARTS, AND TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGES OF COLOMBIA becomes PARTNER in the Studio Program Art Residency

Following the signing of the MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE MINISTRY OF CULTURES, ARTS, AND TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGES OF COLOMBIA & BERLIN ART INSTITUTE, artists Valeria Alfonso Caraballo & Mónica Naranjo Uribe won the Open Call and have started their fully funded participation in the artist residency at BAI in Blocks 01 & 02, 2026.

The BERLIN ART INSTITUTE is a distinctive, independent institution operating at the intersection of contemporary art production, cross-disciplinary education, and international exchange. It offers a dynamic professional studio environment alongside a broad spectrum of programs designed for artists, scholars, cultural practitioners, and institutions from around the world.

Over the past decade, BAI has welcomed 600+ residents from 70+ countries, nurturing a vibrant community grounded in experimentation, critical dialogue, and international collaboration.

Concept

The BERLIN ART INSTITUTE combines elements of a professional production site, international artist residency, independent art school, and innovative arts incubator for artistic practice, discourse, and research in Berlin.

In addition to the international Studio Program Art Residency, the BAI offers Workshops, Master Classes, Portfolio Courses, a Spring Academy, a Summer School, an Arts Incubator, Live Online Courses, a Friends Program, and the presentation display 404 | BAI.

Location

The studios of the institute are located in the building complex 404 at the listed commercial property “Motorwerk Berlin” in the Berlin district of Weißensee. The prominent head-end building and the production hall are from 1921.

Team

We work together with a pool of international guest lecturers. Regular events with alternating artists, curators, critics, authors etc. facilitate an exchange with actors of Berlin’s contemporary art scene.
