Many thanks to the artist Ani Schulze for her lecture Ghosts, Spirits and Parasites and discussing the works of our participants within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School, Arts Incubator, and Live Online Courses & Classes.

“In this lecture, artist Ani Schulze presents works and projects from recent years. Often in dialogue with video, her practice is fueled by the exploration of painterly, sculptural and spatial features. She develops painterly environments addressing questions of human subjectivity, with focus on female artistic production. Based on cultural-historical research, her works examine the writing of history, power relations and role attributions. This lecture explores how her work channels multiple present and past voices as ghosts, spirits and parasites, creating narrative fragments and a fictional sensation of time. Schulze invites the students to reflect upon the dynamics of artistic creation and consider to which extent shadows circulate within their work. Which ones do they include and which are liberated through the artistic process?” (Text by courtesy of Ani Schulze)
