Many thanks to the artist Anja Tchepets for her workshop introducing our participants to EXPRERIMENTAL DRAWING – Planned Chance during the basic course within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School & Arts Incubator.
“Planned Chance
Chance influences all areas of life. In nature, biology, history, philosophy, music and literature, and the natural sciences- mathematics and physics – in all these areas random process play an essential role.
In art, chance as a creative, formative moment has been used by many artists since the beginning of the last century. Various methods have been invented to work creatively with chance, helping new artistic possibilities unfold.
In this course, we will first look at the work of artists who have invented ways of recognising and working within chance. We will analyse, discuss and explore the various artistic methods and techniques and apply this very phenomenon of chance to our artworks. Through various exercises we will learn to be less subjective in order to arrive at more objective solutions, and by following experimental approaches invent our own creativity within chance. This process will allow a number of creative practiced to evolve and encourage openness, curiosity, and a readiness to explore the unknown The ability to find transformation and flexibility, as well as the ability to invent and improvise within random processes.
The results of our experiments will be discussed within a group.” (Text by courtesy of Anja Tchepets)
