The artists Tegwen Evans (participant from September – November 2018) & Kiva Smith (participant from September 2018 – June 2019) produced a short film titled XX:hair within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School & Arts Incubator.
XX:hair, 2019 / 8mm film / 7 min 51 sec
“The short film XX:hair is a commentary on the dynamic between two assigned female at birth (AFAB) people in relation to hair. More specifically, it highlights the interpersonal anxieties with one’s hair and the social pressures endorsed by other AFABs. This abstract film with slight cringe and comical tension is paired with audio by MTMA. The track features recordings of sounds MTMA finds anxious as well. This layered AFAB collaboration is a playful display of critique. The audio plays twice while the footage plays three times. In an exhibition it was shown repeating on a loop so the footage and audio almost never matched and the viewer had a different association of sound if they came at different times.” (Text by courtesy of Tegwen Evans & Kiva Smith)
