“Bastian Gehbauer’s exhibition Memories of a place I have never been… Part II is a continued meditation on the poetics of entropy and the allegories of loss. In his new exhibition at HOTO, the artist continues his research into distinct image threads depicting interior and exterior landscapes. Each new series on view is united in that, as places, they no longer exist as they once did; instead, these ghostly apparitions are marked by the patina of trauma and time-wrought erosion has warped its surface or eaten away at its very form. Using found documentary photographs culled from state archives, Gehbauer reworks imagery into new formats, and each becomes a separate proposal for lost modernities.
