Julie Favreau is interested in exploring the erotic texture of the world from a feminist perspective and examining the manner in which animate and inanimate things touch and influence one another. Her projects deal with the question of how spiritual and sensual energies play a role as vital forces within the approaching encounter between technological interfaces and human beings. In this context, she also touches on scenarios in which machines and computer technologies influence human activity. Her meditative, almost hypnotizing films present situations where the human body interacts with novel techno-organic entities.” (Text excerpt from the press release by courtesy of Steglitz-Zehlendorf Office of Culture, Kulturhaus Schwartzsche Villa & Dr. Christine Nippe)

Julie Favreau lives and works in Montreal and Berlin. Her works have been presented at venues including the Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin (2017); Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (2016); Darling Foundry, Montreal (2016); Edinburgh Art Festival (2015); and Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (2011). She has received the Pierre-Ayot Award (2014) and the Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Fellowship in Contemporary Art (2012).
