Many thanks to the critic, curator & artist Andreas Schlaegel for his lecture “TODAY‘S IMAGE – A jog through history and semiotics” and discussing the works of our participants.
“To gain an overview of larger historic developments it can be necessary to move fast. So to try to cover some ground, we will „jog“ through the history of the arts, along a slide show starting with the invention of photography. We will attempt to not only look at the key moments in the complicated intertwined history of photography and the arts, but also expand on this trajectory. In our current age of social apps, data mining and machine read imagery, the challenge is to grasp the continuity of this nineteenth century dialogue that is still shaping our world view – technical innovations across different media and their meaning to the individual – and to realize what we have to change for the 21st century, as viewers and artists.” (Text by courtesy of Andreas Schlaegel)
