“We are proud to present two Berlin-based artists in a joint exhibition for the first time. Entitled ‘Das jüngste Gerücht’ (The Latest Rumour), the exhibition draws inspiration from a cabaret programme by Wolfgang Neuss from 1963.
Both artists are inspired by images which catch their eye. These vary from documentations to images of historical events, to works of art, but also digital or analogue images illustrating current events. Their works are figurative, but both often work with structures that make their paintings and sculptures appear almost abstract. For them, art is a means of relating, engaging and scrutinizing the world in which we live. Their works address themes that move them personally, but that can also tell us something about the world – or perhaps the one we would rather live in. For both artists, a picture or sculpture is always a medium that follows its own laws inherent to art and works with colour, form, structure, line, surface and space. Their artworks always inspire the viewer to reflect upon the real life context of the works.
In this exhibition, ‘Berlin On My Mind’, we proudly present all the artists who have walked a part of their creative path with us over these last ten years. We are proud and grateful to have provided a temporary framework to this decade of creativity and have nourished with great conviction and enthusiasm. These artists have accompanied us – and we them – through this time. We immersed ourselves in creative spaces with them, we rubbed shoulders, we were inspired and delighted. We felt their power as well as their subtlety, intensity and dedication.
Every creative process that began in the residency program over the last 10 years started with a blank canvas and Berlin On My Mind. Although the program has adapted to the varying circumstances over the years, it has remained true to its basic form: To boldly and innovatively invite people who convince us both artistically and personally. To offer them a space to grow in an unfamiliar environment. Not only have the artists been provided with a space to live and work over the years, but with the opportuinity to network with each other through overlapping residencies and introductions to the Berlin art world. This has been the bedrock of 68projects by KORNFELD since the beginning.” (Text excerpts from the press releases by courtesy of KORNFELD GALERIE BERLIN & 68projects by KORNFELD)
