Many thanks to GOULD from the the artist duo VARIOUS & GOULD for his online lecture Permanently Improvised and discussing the works of our participants within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School, Arts Incubator, and Live Online Courses & Classes.
“The Berlin based artist duo Various & Gould works in close collaboration since 2005. They’ve been studying at the Berlin-Weissensee School of Art (KHB). Various & Gould are an integral part of Berlin’s Urban Art scene for over a decade. Their creation is based on the simple but striking formula 1 + 1 = 3. In a playful and unconventional way, the two artists tackle major social issues such as work, migration, diversity, religion, global warming or death. The duo tries to find ever new and specific forms of expression in each of their series. Whilst methods of screen-printing and collage are their speciality, their art can also emerge in a public performance or an installation as they like crossing borders and do not stick to a certain medium. Mutual passions including their love of paper, enthusiasm for accidental beauty in everyday life and art in urban space form the core of their artistic practice. Influenced by (political) poster graphics, Dada and Pop Art, vivid colors combined with typography and encrypted messages are the characteristics of their work.
In this online lecture Gould will present examples from the duo’s work and make a short tour through a virtual exhibition. Following this part, the participants of the BAI have the opportunity to show and discuss their work.” (Text by courtesy of VARIOUS & GOULD)
