Many thanks to the artist Patricia Lambertus for her online lecture Layers of History – collage and décollage in sitespecific installation and discussing the works of our participants within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School, Arts Incubator, and Live Online Courses & Classes.
“Collage technique is the systematic exploitation of coincidental or artificially provoked meeting of two or more different realities on a level, which may appear unsuitable in addition – and the spark of poetry that leaps over when these realities approach“ (Max Ernst)
For my narrative, installative spatial images, I use the the techniques of collage and décollage. Apparent realities are broken through, superimposed or exposed. There are obvious breaks, cracks and cut edges. These layering of images can be read like archaeological stratigraphies, the stratigraphy used to analyze and date found horizons. The collage technique allows different time layers of historical or contemporary events to appear side by side. Likewise, images from a wide variety of contexts can be fused into a new reality.” (Text by courtesy of Patricia Lambertus)
