Many thanks to the artist Doris Marten for her lecture Sophisticated Arrangements of Colour Pigments – so What? and discussing the works of our participants within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School, Arts Incubator, and Live Online Courses & Classes.
“Following its resurrection from the dead, painting is on everyone’s lips again as well as in everyone’s hands, as you can easily see from the flood of painting results showed in galleries, exhibitions and art fairs and besides on social media, too.
Everything is possible, so beautiful, so irresistibly colourful, overwhelmingly shiny and all in all so arbitrary that you become increasingly irritated by the excessive randomness. – Is this all art or just something painted?
But whenever we are on the verge of losing interest for good, suddenly in the midst of all the mediocrity, this one painting appears, making contact with us with an irresistible force. It communicates with us, holds up a mirror and allows us to recognize connections that we haven’t been able to think of so far nor formulate them.
So how is that possible? What else has to happen for the creamy, soft and delicate excesses of colour to trigger something in our brains?” (Text by courtesy of Doris Marten)
