Lecture PAINTINGS – REFLECTIONS OF PERCEPTION by Doris Marten

Many thanks to the artist Doris Marten for her lecture PAINTINGS – Reflections of Perception and discussing the works of our participants within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School, Arts Incubator, and Live Online Courses & Classes.

“First of all, paintings tell us something about our visual perception. How do we perceive colours, forms, space, light, materiality…etc. ? This alone is a broad field of research. But beyond that, paintings have to contain substantial statements which ultimately characterise them as works of art. Art is a means of communication that spans generations. This is why artistic work means tracking down and formulating the essential questions of our time. On the basis of my own work and some selected works by other artists, I would like to explain in this lecture how, by following one‘s own formal interests, one can finally get to the central content statement.” (Text by courtesy of Doris Marten)
