Many thanks to the artist duo VARIOUS & GOULD for their lecture Monumental Shadows and discussing the works of our participants within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School, Arts Incubator, and Live Online Courses & Classes.
“The artist duo Various & Gould present their latest project. The project “Monumental Shadows” deals with memory culture and monuments that continue to inscribe colonial history in public space. In a combination of artistic collaboration, content-related debate, youth workshops and public discussion, the project attempts to make the connection between colonialism and present-day racism visible.
Basically, in our lecture we want to discuss questions such as: “Who erects a monument to whom and why?” Monuments are collective projection screens and can be so many things! We want to think together about how to deal with these monuments in the future. Following the lecture, the BAI participants will have the opportunity to discuss and present their work to us in joint studio discussions. (Text by courtesy of VARIOUS & GOULD)
