Many thanks to the artist & activist Khaled Barakeh for his lecture Curation and creative facilitation as an artistic tool in social practices & discussing the works of our participants within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School, Arts Incubator, and Live Online Courses & Classes.

“How can we challenge the definitions and borders of art practices as we know them?
Can an artist’s ego melt into collective production where “the artist is viewed as the catalyst rather than being at the center” (as the French art critic Nicolas Bourriaud highlighted in his definition of Relational Art)? Aren’t the studio-oriented practice and the individual production old models that artists and institutions need to consider? Can the new generation and radical thinking break down outdated preconceived notions about who we are and what kind of world we want to create? What role socially-engaged art and artists can play in our contemporary communities? During his visit, conceptual artist and activist Khaled Barakeh will talk about art as an essential tool for bringing about reform in the social and political spheres, the need to challenge how old societies function and work from an artistic perspective, and how art can give voice to the voiceless and has the power to revolutionize the world.” (Text by courtesy of Khaled Barakeh)
