Seminar REPETITION – AN IMPORTANT ELEMENT IN FINE ART by Doris Marten

January 16 – 18, 2018, 10 am – 1 pm

Many thanks to the artist Doris Marten for her seminar “REPETITION – An Important Element in Fine Art” and discussing the works of our participants.

“Repetition, a contradiction to the innovative character that art takes up for itself? Or is it rather a precondition for innovation?  What does repetition mean for the way we think, the way we see, for our whole orientation? How do we perceive repetition, how do we react to it? To get an idea of the significance of repetition in contemporary works of art, we will adjust the differnet meaning of pattern, rhythm an other repetitive elements used by artists in their work.

These observations lead necessarily to other central terms of our society as for example individuality and homogeneity, structure and balance, equality and difference. It is an aim of the seminar to sensitize the participants of the BAI to the use of repetitive elements in their artistic work by talk, discussion and practical exercises.” (Doris Marten)
