Many thanks to the artist Norbert Erwin Witzgall for his lecture Person / Persona and discussing the works of our participants within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School, Arts Incubator, and Live Online Courses & Classes.
“Norbert Erwin Witzgall has dedicated much of his work to portraiture, cued to the tensions it exposes between person and persona. Witzgall’s portraits are drawn from a rich archive of photographic source material and together form an anachronous community of actors, friends, collectors and historical figures. His fascination with the overlap of private and public performances of identities unites such categories and generates a fluid, diaristic practice. In this lecture, he explores the relationship between representation, fame and intimacy.” (Text by courtesy of Norbert Erwin Witzgall)
