Many thanks to the artist Anja Tchepets for her workshop introducing our participants to EXPRERIMENTAL DRAWING – Fragmentizing and Completing during the basic course within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School & Arts Incubator.

“In this course the focus of our experiments will be on the main elements of a drawing – lines and layers.  At the beginning our exercises we will separate those elements and experiment with each of them. How to reduce a complicated picture to just a few dots? What happens if we reconnect the dots in a different way, how does it change the original image? What happens with a line when it is drawn with a ruler? How do our drawings change when the line is getting loose? How do we create tension, movement or the sense of equilibrium only with drawn lines? Which role the frame of the picture plays? What if the line leaves the accustomed surface of sheet of paper in comes into the third dimension? And what story can a layer tell us? How negative space is drawn? What are the different ways to translate a structure?

Through different exercises we will find answers to those questions and discover how lines, dots and layers can trigger our imagination and help us create our own exciting compositions. Ready results will be discussed within a group.” (Text by courtesy of Anja Tchepets)
