Many thanks to the artist Frederik Foert for his seminar HOME ALONE (KEVIN ALLEIN ZU HAUS) – GADGETS & GIMMICKS, TRICKS & TRAPS and discussing the works of our participants within the Studio Program at BAI | Berlin Artist Residency, Art School, Arts Incubator, and Live Online Courses & Classes.
“Artist Frederik Foert will talk about his work according to western art history – a wild ride from still life to the ready-made and beyond… How everyday objects became poetic story tellers! Confronting the perfidities of day-to-day life, Frederik Foert constantly rearranges his household and generates small cinematic moments by constructing kinetic objects.
In his work, Foert creates motion studies of several kinds. Ignoring the laws of physics, he builds artistic experimental setups out of everyday items. Starting with still lifes of the Golden Era of Dutch painting in the 16th century, where artists were trying to tell stories by arranging food, flowers and everyday objects – talking in allegories and metaphors – the lecture will give an overview of how artists in the last centuries used simple objects to tell us stories about life. Different steps and changing styles will be discussed from hyper realistic oil painting, over Marcel Duchamps ready-mades to Andy Warhols Brillo Box.
The following seminar will be a mixture of theoretical and practical work on the matter of storytelling in visual arts by using everyday items. Students will work with different materials and media to express their ideas of improvised animated objects.” (Text by courtesy of Frederik Foert)
