Many thanks to the artist Dudu Quintanilha for his lecture UNSYNC and discussing the works of our participants within the Studio Program Art Residency at BAI.
“Unsync appears as a small discrepancy.
A moment when a norm is interrupted.
It generates a new way of resonating.
The reflex is usually to correct it.
Or even prevent it before it happens.
But as artists, we can explore that dissonance as a possibility.
I borrow the idea of unsync to look at the development of an artistic career between professionalisation and accident.
A territory where not everything is aligned.
And yet, something works.
In this talk, I want to share projects that were born from accidents and that sparked creation.
Moments that did not turn out as planned.
Mistakes that I decided not to correct and that shaped decisions.
I am not interested in criticising the professionalisation of artists.
I am interested in giving space to practices that orbit in ways sometimes perceived as out of sync.”
