Become a Partner in the BAI Residency Program

The BAI offers international art universities, art academies, embassies, agencies, institutions, organizations, associations, foundations and enterprises the opportunity to cooperate in a Residency Program granting their own students/participants/scholars a study stay in Berlin.

We would be glad to get into a conversation with you as a potential partner in the spirit of an intercultural dialogue and exchange and incubating springboard between your country and Germany. It would be great to imagine that through the young and dedicated emerging as well as mid career contemporary artists the participation would entail sustainable and long-term networking of institutions and associations for future collaborations. The partnership will be tailored effectively between both sides with mutual collaboration.

  • Offer your scholarship holders/scholars/students/fellows/residents/participants the possibility of a residency in Berlin.

  • We offer comprehensive supervision of the residents as well as their participation in the entire BAI Studio Program.

  • You can book a workplace in one of our shared studios as a subscription in the frame of the BAI Studio Program, and to use the workplace alternatingly, e.g., for periods of three blocks consisting each of 4 calendar weeks which fits to the visa regulations for a 90-day stay. It is also possible to book single blocks a year. We recommend to book at least 3 blocks per participant. You can also send several residents at the same time. Please also note our fee structure: The more continuous blocks you book the cheaper it gets.

  • After signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a cooperation agreement the selection procedure for the participants of the BAI Residency Program and the duration of the stay are determined by the cooperation partners. Usually partners organize an Open Call in their countries.

  • Requirements for applicants (emerging, mid-career, and established artists, curators & art writers/critics): Minimum age 18; English language proficiency (B2 level or higher). The program is conducted in English. Applicants should be ready to communicate and present their practice during the residency.

  • The welcoming culture of the BAI manifests itself in our care especially for our foreign guests. All of our BAI participants receive after application/registration a long list where they can search for adequate housing possibilities. There is no possibility to live in the institute.

  • Most of our partners rent for their residents just 1 km (15 minutes sidewalk) from the BAI serviced apartments at our partner hotel in a lovely neighborhood situated next to the lake “Weißer See” with excellent public transport connections which will take you to the city center within 15 minutes to Alexanderplatz.

  • The Berlin Art Institute acknowledges the residency stay with a certificate.

Our Block Dates

The program of the BERLIN ART INSTITUTE is structured in blocks of 4 calendar weeks (CW) each. It makes sense to start the participation in the BAI Residency Program at the beginning of a four-week program block.
