WEEK 2: Rethinking Single Picture Narratives

Can a single image contain a whole story? Based on the works of participants, this session challenges the idea of linear storytelling and explores how single images can imply complex narratives through clues, layering, and cultural reference. We will look at strategies artists use to condense time, memory, and meaning into single and singular images.

Key topics:

•           The problem of narrative condensation
•           What’s « shared knowledge » artists can rely on?
•           Ambiguity vs. clarity: how much do you need, how little should you provide?

Discussion & Reflection: Participants will analyze each other’s works and discuss the levels on which a single image can narrate and communicate meaning.
