Presentation 4: “Women Are Witches: Contemporary Witch Aesthetics”
Jasmine will lead a visual presentation with opportunities to ask questions and discuss throughout.

Topic Summary:

  • The (aging) hand as a symbol of the witch
  • Lineage of witch aesthetics from medieval to contemporary
  • The witch in contemporary media and film
  • Contemporary artists working with feminist witch aesthetics
  • Conclusion: contemporary witch hunting and late-stage capitalism
In-class presentations: “Witch Kits”
Participants will have the opportunity to share and reflect on the making of their “Witch Kits” with the class

Final In-class Exercise: Cluster Writing 4
  • In your own time, reflect on the class topics in relation to your practice, existing ideas and/or research questions.
  • Write or draw your responses in your notebook/sketchbook. Write or draw as much as you feel necessary to communicate your ideas and/or questions.
  • When you are finished, title the entry “Cluster 4”
  • Now go back to the previous day, and note the similarities and differences between Cluster 1, 2, 3, 4.
  • Using the differences, write/draw a new entry.
