WEEK 4: Becoming Weird, Becoming Wild

In-Class Exercise 4: 

Bhanu Kapil’s Writing Prompts 

  • Jasmine will read short excerpts of Bhanu Kapil’s book “Incubation: A Time for Monsters” and offer writing prompts written by Kapil for the class to answer in their sketchbooks/notebooks 
  • Participants can use the new beings created in the previous class to write answers to Kapil’s prompts or their own experiences 
  • Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the outcomes following the exercise. 

In-class discussion 

Choo Yi Feng “Plastic Bag Girl” 

  • Participants will share their prepared questions/comments in an in-class discussion of the story 

In-Class Exercise 5: 

Durational Drawing 

  • Using a still-life set up on-screen by Jasmine, participants will engage in a life-drawing session that changes 
  • Jasmine will add/remove/alter the objects on-screen while the students draw 

Participants will draw continuously WITHOUT ERASING or removing previous drawings, images and pieces of paper can be added or altered, but nothing removed or erased.

In-class Cluster Writing 4 

  • In your own time, reflect on the class topics in relation to your practice, existing ideas and/or research questions. 

End of class Discussion 

  • Discuss cluster writing process, participants will have an opportunity to share selected entries 
  • Concluding remarks/thanks etc…
