WEEK 3: Drawing as trace

Mark-making is always the trace of a movement and a material. It might be the record of an action, a fingerprint, or a coffee stain. One might think of it as a type of evidence or a residue. In this lecture artists will be shown who have focused on what Charles Pierce has called the “indexical quality” of an image.

Discussion and the selection of assignments

Participants will have uploaded their projects and we will discuss them one by one. Feedback will be given on the assignment itself and participants can also react to each others’ work.

Assignments for the next week will be selected.
