WEEK 2: More-than-human perspectives and artistic research in the Anthropocene

In this session, we will interrogate the category of the human through the lens of speciesism (the assumption of human superiority over non-human animals) and its entanglement with modernity and anthropocentrism. Concepts such as the “holobiont” and “more-than-human” will be introduced to complicate static notions of individuality and species boundaries. We will explore how artists have responded to the so-called Anthropocene through research-based practices that foreground ecological entanglements, interdependence, and the crisis of the human as a dominant category.
