WEEK 2: Experimental Film Methods and Resourcefulness

In the second session we will address how constraints becomes a source of creativity by overviewing on different experimental filmmaking techniques: abstraction, found footage and DIY methods. We will study the cases of filmmakers and artist like Jonas Mekas, Chris Marker, Francis Alÿs and Ousmane Sembène, who embraced resourcefulness in their work. We will also analyse the creation of short experimental sequences using found materials and learn how limited resources inspire unconventional techniques like hand-processed film, non-linear narratives, found footage, and abstract sound design.
