WEEK 3: Transport & Exhibition-making

The Transport & Exhibition-making session explores sustainable approaches to transporting and displaying artworks. We will begin with strategies to reduce the impact of shipping and crating and learn about alternative materials and methods for fine art packing and crating that reduce environmental impact while preserving the safety and integrity of artworks in transit. Problematic materials and methods commonly found in exhibition-production are addressed along with sustainable alternatives and principles from the circular economy for reducing carbon emissions and waste. We will additionally investigate the often-overlooked environmental cost of digital footprint of exhibition displays with practical strategies and resources to help minimise the energy use and carbon emissions associated with digital operations.
