Many thanks to the artist Frederik Foert for his lecture “The Dangerous Thing about Flying is the Earth! (Wilbur Wright) – Artists, Angels, Angles, Engineers… the dream of flying and the arts!”.
“From the ancient greek myth of Icarus to amazon parcels delivered by drones, the idea of flying has always been a dream of mankind! And so for sure also artists tried to find a way into the sky – may it be a more metaphorical one or the real thing! This lecture will show an overview on the theme thru western art history including painting, sculpture, drawing, installation and video art. But Flying itself is not the main point, it’s also a story of failure and unfulfilled dreams, a story which is a metaphor for an artists daily struggle, searching for the best ideas! From Peter Pan to the Silver Surfer, from da Vinci to Panamarenko, from Baroque to Pop – Learning to fly without losing ground!” (Frederik Foert)
