Many thanks to the art historian Jan-Philipp Fruehsorge (M.A.) for his lecture “Medium in Permanent Flux” introducing our participants to the history of recent drawing as part of the international BAI Spring Academy.

“Since the 1960s until most recently drawing, unlike any other artistic medium, has been continuosly undergoing a transformation process which led to a radically new view and defintion of its functions and practices. Drawing has turned from the traditional tool of developing ideas to become a transmedia universal medium, transcending the borderlines of the analog and digital realms of imagemaking and also embracing artistic as well as non artistic practices.” (Jan-Philipp Fruehsorge)

The lecture will present an overview of the expanded field of drawing of the last 30-40years, putting emphasis on selected artistic positions and some pivotal institutional exhibitions that have been influential.
